I’m working on jotting down some new posts re Bible translation, but wanted to link to some recent posts from elsewhere in blogland: Gary Zimmerli continues to wrestle with the NRSV and other translations, touching on funding for the National Council of Churches, issuing a well-stated call to focus our energy on the Bible’s message [...]

I ran across the following poll while blog surfing… 60+ questions later and I find myself labeled as a Wesleyan, which I know absolutely nothing about, though I completely agree with the summary paragraph and did go to a Methodist church for a few years as a child. Guess it’s time for another book! You [...]
Late last night I was looking on my bookshelf at the various things I’ve been reading over the past few years and realized that I’ve spent most of my time reading books that buck the traditional flow of things. I find a great deal of intellectual pleasure in digging out arguments against “conventional wisdom”, taking [...]
An interesting discussion about the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) translation over at Gary Zimmerli’s A Friend of Christ blog has sent me looking back at a few of the Old Testament verses that I did translation comparisons on. In one of those, Psalm 91:1-2, the differences between translations (TNIV, HCSB, REB, NLTse) were significant [...]
These days it seems like we rarely encounter things that truly take our breath away, at least in a positive manner. And perhaps Bible publishing isn’t the most amazing thing to make you sit up and pay attention, but Michael Hanegan of Radical Renovation blogged yesterday about a new TNIV edition from IBS. Called “The [...]
Rick Mansfield has begun to assemble an exhaustive list of changes made to the revised ESV (2007) from the earlier edition (2001), a list which includes the attention-grabbing change from “wizards” to “necromancers” in Leviticus (19:31, 20:6), 2 Kings (21:6) and 2 Chronicles (33:6). In response, Peter Kirk has tongue-in-cheek lifted the penalty of death by stoning [...]
I had to chuckle reading my grandpa’s obituary earlier this evening. Dutifully noted toward the end was the list of grandchildren and great-grandchildren: “He leaves behind … his grandchildren, ElShaddai Edwards (Cindy), Isaac Edwards, Seth Stewart (Marsha), Abel Stewart (Lupina), Daniel Edwards, Megan Edwards (deceased), Matthew Edwards; and his great-grandchildren, Samuel Edwards, Benjamin Edwards, Matthew [...]
We received word on Tuesday morning that ElShaddai’s grandfather passed away on Monday. More than ever now, we’re grateful we had the chance to visit with him when we were in Texas earlier this month. Stephen Paul Edwards February 12, 1920 ~ June 18, 2007 Stephen was called home to join his Lord and Savior [...]
Cindy’s grandmother died on Tuesday night after a long period of declining health. Quite a number of folks stopped by the visitation on Thursday evening and the chapel at the funeral home was full for the memorial service on Friday. Cindy’s sister Marilee gave the eulogy, taking us on a memory tour of “Grandma’s house” [...]
While Sam will keep going to school through the summer, this spring did mark the completion of his first “school year”, having started at Sunrise International Montessori last fall. Here’s a link to his class photo:
