Sam: the golf video

Posted: July 20, 2008 in Uncategorized

I’ve uploaded a short video of Sam’s last handful of balls (from a large bucket). No technique critiques needed – he’s just having fun!

Sam and I went to the driving range by 35W this afternoon for his first time hitting something other than the plastic orange golf balls. I didn’t know how he’d react to the heavier balls, especially after he hit one of his plastic ones up onto the roof of the house today, but he did [...]

Glasses for Sam

Posted: July 17, 2008 in Uncategorized

Sam finally was able to see the eye doctor today and after a very thorough exam she confirmed what we expected based on what he’s been telling us: his right eye is (very) weak and the left eye is overcompensating. So he’ll be wearing glasses very soon, which is no surprise to his ocular-challenged parents… [...]

Remnants of the KJV

TC’s comments on 1 Peter 3 prompted me to look up a few verses and I came across another example of the HCSB’s alliterative translation: Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of [...]

I’ve been Wordled…

Jeff has challenged us to Wordle our blogs as a way of visually seeing what we write about. According to Amazon.com and Christianbook.com, the English Standard Version (ESV) with Apocrypha edition will be published by Oxford University Press on February 1, 2009: The English Standard Version Bible captures as far as possible the precise wording of the original biblical text and the personal style of each Bible writer, while taking into account differences [...]

We had a particularly strong storm go through this past Thursday. Unlike most, this one caught Burnsville full on and our neighborhood lost many trees to strong downbursts of wind. We were fortunate as that storm later spawned a tornado that touched down in a few towns to the southeast of us. We lost a [...]

The following verses from Psalm 38 caught my attention this morning while reading the HCSB: 4 For my sins have flooded over my head; they are a burden too heavy for me to bear. 5 My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. Most translations I looked at had some variation of the [...]

I attempted once again to use my REB as my Sunday “church Bible” again this past week, with mixed results. For those coming new to this blog, my church uses the NIV as its pew and pastoral translation; however, for reasons I can’t fully explain, I’ve never warmed to the NIV and so have been [...]

Sam the soccer man

Posted: July 11, 2008 in Uncategorized

Sam finished up soccer camp yesterday. He had fun, but doesn’t seem to be much into team sports yet, preferring to hit balls by himself with his golf club and tennis racket. That’s okay with us. [tags=07102008]
